Two new organs added to the Johannus LiVE family

With the recording of the Sauer organ from the Michaeliskirche in Leipzig and the Schnitger organ from the Der Aa-kerk in Groningen, the Johannus LiVE family is two organs richer.

The Johannus LiVE is a digital stereo organ on which dozens of international pipe organs can be played through sample sets. Each sample set contains a pure recording of a complete organ. When Johannus LiVE was launched in 2015, sample sets were already available from the Cavaillé Coll organ in the Église Notre-Dame d’Auteuil in Paris, the Silbermann organ in the Katholische Hofkirche in Dresden, and the Bätz organ in Utrecht’s Domkerk. The collection has been expanded once again, this time with the addition of two wonderful organs from Leipzig and Groningen.

MORE THAN 1,100 ORGANS

The Michaeliskirche in Leipzig, the city of Bach, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Grieg and Telemann, was designed by the architects Heinrich Rust and Alfred Müller, and was built between 1901 and 1904. The renowned organ builder Wilhelm Carl Friedrich Sauer completed a 46-stop organ in this church in 1904. Sauer not only delivered beautiful organs, there were also quite a lot of them; he was involved in the design of more than 1,100 organs. The instrument in the Michaeliskirche has three manuals and one pedal board. The organ was restored at the end of the 20th century by Christian Scheffler.

CRUSHED UNDER COLLAPSED TOWER

The Schnitger organ in the Der Aa-kerk in Groningen is more or less a patchwork construction by various organ builders. It was originally built for the neighbouring Academy or Broerkerk, where it served for years. In 1815, it was moved to the Der Aa-kerk, after the organ there was crushed under the collapsed tower. In the following decades, the organ underwent various expansions, repairs and restorations. The organ builders Timpe and Van Oeckelen carried out a reconstruction, so that the instrument is now officially known as the Schnitger/Timpe/Van Oeckelen organ. It currently has 40 stops.
