Leading for decades

The Opus is a familiar face in the Johannus family. The impressive history of this organ dates back well into the early 70s of the last century, when the Opus – the first home organ series by Johannus – entered the market. Since then, countless organists have grown up with this organ and ‘the Opus’ has truly become a household name among organ lovers.

It’s no surprise then, that the Opus has been Johannus’ bestselling home organ for many years. Over time, even though the Opus has been subject to constant improvement, the ideas that originally informed its creation have held true. The Opus was, is, and will remain, a versatile musical enrichment for every home.

The Opus is an organ for every enthusiast, and that becomes clear as soon as you take sit at the organ. One of the organs, we should say – as there are two versions. The two-manual Opus 277 provides you with a stoplist including 36 stops. The three-manual Opus 377, the showpiece of the series, comes with no less than 42 stops. 

Beneath the manuals of both organs, there is a 32-tone radiating concave pedal board (AGO standard), as well as three programmable expression pedals. What is more, the Opus 277 comes with three brass toe studs, while the Opus 377 is equipped with six brass toe studs. Both organs feature two orchestral voices as standard: a trumpet and a pan flute.

After this first look at the organ, it’s time to start playing. After all, although their rich and balanced stoplists look good on paper, the way the organs sound is even more essential. To achieve the beautiful organ sounds of the Opus series, our sound engineers use the Harmonic Contour Sampling method. They first make high-quality recordings of renowned pipe organs. 

Then they make a selection of the most beautiful sounding pipes in a rank. The quality of these pipes forms the foundation of the entire organ stop. This advanced sampling method allows you to enjoy the best sound quality of these impressive pipe organs. On every note of every stop.

To provide the ultimate playing experience, the organs in the Opus series feature a wide range of advanced technologies. For example, the Virtual Pipe Positioning system simulates the exact location of the pipes in the pipe front. And our newly developed wind model provides a realistic representation of the organ’s wind supply. This means that the pitch fluctuates very subtly when you press a number of keys simultaneously; similar to when you require a lot of wind on a pipe organ. In turn, this creates the impression that the organ is breathing, that it’s alive!

Because all the technologies used in the organ have been developed by our in-house R&D department itself, they are perfectly attuned. This results in a very responsive organ – immediately responding to what you ask of it. Starting up in seconds, the sound resonating through the room will immediately evoke fond memories of that real pipe organ you know and love. Just as it should.

 

Musical enrichment

The Opus is an impressive organ which suits every taste: it has no fewer than four different sample styles available as standard. There is the American Classic sample style– with samples from renowned American pipe organs. On top of that, it has a selection of styles available with a more European sound, such as the symphonic, baroque, and historic sample styles. Each of them having their own beautiful, high-quality samples and character – meaning the Opus has something to suit everyone.

Choose the baroque setting, and the open, transparent sounds of the principals and flutes will issue forth. Select the American Classic style and the strings and reeds beautifully blend together into a warm and rich ensemble. Completely immersed in the music, you’ll imagine yourself in an imposing cathedral or in a picturesque little chapel, depending on the reverb you select. And whether you’re studying or just enjoying playing music, that’s exactly the experience you’re looking for. That’s the feeling that the Opus offers you.

 

Embraced by the sound

In order to convey the sound of authentic pipe organs as pure and realistically as possible, these multi-channel Opus organs come equipped with a top-quality audio system. The various stops and pitches are distributed across the loudspeakers in a way that simulates the sound distribution of an actual pipe organ. Which allows you, the organist, to be completely embraced by warm organ sounds. At any time.

Of course, we’ve also thought of those organists who wear headphones while playing. By a clever application of the reverb, our SSE™ (Spatial Sound Experience) technology creates the sensation of standing in for example a concert hall, chapel or church, right in front of the organ’s pipes – enabling you to enjoy your own playing to the full.

 

A perfect fit

The Opus is a stunning addition to any interior. The organ is stylishly designed, while the comfort of the organist has also been taken into consideration. For example, the subtle cut-out of the console provides extra freedom of feet movement and a better view on the playing of the pedal board. The illuminated stop tabs are within easy reach and provide a quick, clear display of your current registration.

The Opus 277 and 377 are available in six colors, meaning that there’s always a color that suits your taste and interior.
