Mit der Passacaglia c-Moll BWV 582 hat Johann Sebastian Bach uns einen Maßstab der Passacaglia-Komposition hinterlassen und ein Werk geschaffen, das die Hörer immer wieder in seinen Bann zieht. Organisten haben es dabei besonders schwer – nicht nur wegen der spieltechnischen Anforderungen, sondern auch, weil Bach wie damals üblich keine Angaben zur Wahl der Register macht.
Wie soll man nun Bachs monumentale Passacaglia registrieren? Das ist eine alte Streitfrage unter Organisten.

Johannus Rembrandt 350 in the research of interpretation
With the Passacaglia in C minor BWV 582 Johann Sebastian Bach has left us a standard of passacaglia composition and created a work that draws the listener again and again under its spell. For organists there are lots of difficulties - not only because of the technical demands, but also because Bach gives no hint to the combination of the stops according to the usage of his time.
How to register Bach monumental Passacaglia now? This is an old debate among organists.
The article (text and audio file) by Karl-Jürgen Kemmelmeyer, Hannover / Germany, is based on a thorough analysis of the Passacaglia and explanation of organs that Bach had the possibility to listen to. For the first time, the registration practices - passed on orally within the Bach-pupil generations - will be documented by text and sound using the Johannus Rembrandt 350 for reconstruction.
