Musical contribution - A. van Vliet - June 2011

Dear organist, We have opted for another song arrangement this month, one which fits within the church year. This song is one of the Pentecost hymns within the Songbook for Churches. It’s known by the “The Old Hundredth” title abroad.

But we are most familiar with the melody as a result of Psalm 134. The first variation is a trio. I have used an 8’ and 2’ for the right hand in the recording and a soft reed in the melody. But an 8’ and 4’ flute and an 8’ principal for the c.f. is also an excellent option.

The second variation is intended to be a prelude. The 8’, 4’, 3’ combination is very rich in vocals. But looking at the text – Hymn 250 verse 1 or verse 5 are very different – it is, of course, advisable to consider this with the registration.
