Musical contribution - January 2026

bladmuziek met potlood

We would like to begin by wishing you all a happy, healthy, blessed, and musical 2026. We hope to meet you again every month at the Musical Handreiking throughout the coming year. It is wonderful to see that new people continue to find their way to us. Please feel free to pass this on to fellow organists and friends, so that we may continue to grow this circle of friends.

We start the new year with a cheerful Gavotte. Although it is not originally written for the organ, it is very well suited to our beloved instrument. I personally chose to use one of the solo instruments — the flute. This gives the piece a light, dancing character, allowing it to skip joyfully into the new year.

Gossec was born in the French-speaking south of Belgium. At a young age, he moved to France, where he became an influential figure in the musical life of Paris. He remained active there until his death in 1829.

A certain sense of flamboyance was certainly not foreign to him, something that clearly shines through in this short piece we explore this month. With its elegance, we have a particularly charming and appealing work in our hands.

Kind regards,

André
