This month’s piece was originally written for piano and comes from a cycle of six compositions, all bearing the same title. Liszt composed the series between 1844 and 1848. He later revised the complete cycle and had it published again.
The arrangement we are working with here is the fourth in the series and has a strongly religious character. It is intended as a prayer—a prayer for consolation. That is also the meaning of the word "Consolation".
For registration, we use only the soft 8’ stops on all manuals and couple them. The use of the swell box is also recommended. This allows us to bring out different sound colours without having to change the registration.
Warm regards,
André
