Cantique de Noël Adolphe Adam (1803-1856)

This Christmas Carol is probably one of the most famous in the world. In 1843, when the organ of the village church of Roquemaure (a very small village on the left bank of the Rhone) was restored, the village priest asked the poet Placide Cappeau to write a poem inspired by the organ restoration. Adolphe Adam composed music to go with it, and some time later the song was performed for the first time.

The organ arrangement we are offering this month is by William Joseph Westbrook (1831-1894). The verses are always played with a leading stop and the choruses can be more solid. If you prepare the registration beforehand in the setzer, the result is a beautiful symphonic whole.
