Musical contribution - June 2018

Stay With Me Till the Morning - W.A. Mozart/A. Breukhoven (LiVE sample set: Utrecht, Bätz).

In response to requests from many of our regular visitors, we are devoting a Musical Contribution to this celebrated melody this month. As you can see, your patience has finally paid off!

The melody is based on the famous Adagio movement from the Clarinet Concert in A (KV 622), one of Mozart’s final completed works. While the exquisite melody has been featured in various films and other media, the majority of people are likely to remember it as one of the tracks on the The Young Amadeus CD: ‘Stay With Me Till the Morning’.

The pianist Tom Parker rose to fame with his popular adaptations of classical compositions, having released several memorable recordings with the New London Chorale, which also included British singer Vicky Brown. This lyrical adaptation is arguably even more famous than the original melody.

We requested organist Arjan Breukhoven – who has transcribed numerous orchestral works for organ – to create an organ adaptation of the melody, and we are very pleased he has agreed to this collaboration.

While there are no instructions for registration, Arjan recommends playing the melody in a leading voice, as this allows for the use of many different combinations. Since the piece is a transcription, we would like you to rely on your own interpretation in playing it.

Enjoy!

With musical regards,
